A Brief History of the Mini Skirt

Image
I am very passionate about this, so let's talk about the mini skirt. Of course, I have to begin by thanking the mini skirt queen herself, Miss Mary Quant. Without her, I would be nothing.  Mary Quant, in the 1960s, was inspired by the younger generation, or the "mods". She enjoyed their fun, carefree nature and appreciated their simple but bold fashion, and felt inspired to contribute to this style of fashion. Mini skirts, tights and pockets on everything represented their spirit, so that is exactly what Quant did. She was all for the new and unique, starting out her career running a small boutique in Chelsea called Bazaar, stocking her one-off designs. She offered the high street a fresh and alternative look that steered away from the mature and refined clothing found at the time. Raising hemlines became her trademark in the fashion industry. With muses such as Twiggy modelling Quant's clothing, the mini skirt became one of the most popular garments amongst young wom...

the things i dream of...

I have the longest designer wishlist. It has been growing since I was 10 or some ridiculously young age. And although this list is incredibly long, I have priorities which is what I will be talking about today. I am rounding it down to my top five current dream items. 1. Miu Miu shoes. Specifically a pair of either black or white pumps. I love how they take the classic Mary Jane style and add their fun, youthful and feminine touches like rhinestones, big buttons, block heels, multiple buckles, to name a few. One of my favourite pairs they did was their t-bar Mary Jane pumps with really high block heels, they are just so elegant and classy with the added edge of the block heel.  I have loved Miu Miu for so long, ever since I visited their Barcelona boutique when I was 12 (maybe even before, I have a feeling I knew of Miu Miu before visiting their shop). I especially fell in love with their shoes. I have been wanting to save up for a pair for so long and now that I have a job I am g...

hot girls read books about other hot girls

Image
I have recently read some books that I really loved. I used to find it difficult to read books that didn't involve romance or completely made up/unrealistic scenarios because I thought these were the only books that offered escapism but I realised in the past couple of years that that is not true. I now find it hard to read romance at all because I just don't care for it if it isn't happening to me! I feel as though my taste in books has evolved and matured as I have entered adulthood and I can only describe these books as hot girl books (or hot depressed girl books? I don't know, it seems to be a running theme, but they are hot girls nonetheless.) I believe my gateway into this made-up book genre was two years ago when I began reading The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides, which is now one of my absolute favourite books. My mum recommended that I read it and since then I have been taking a lot of her recommendations and also sharing books that I have read and loved...

Petra Collins and Alexa Demie's Fairy Tale Visionary ⚢º☆◦˚ º✧.˚◦☽◦˚⭐︎

In this blog post, I will be looking into the dreamy visions of artist/photographer Petra Collins and actress/singer/model Alexa Demie in their brand new book 'Fairy Tales'. I have been so excited about this project since I first saw that Petra and Alexa were working together but had no clue they would be releasing an entire book! Although the book isn't out yet I just couldn't wait to talk about it, so this post will be my initial thoughts on what we already know of the book and what pictures we have. I adore Petra Collins' work, it's so ethereal and magical, yet also contemporary, and Alexa Demie is such a perfect muse for Petra's vision, as she seems to fit so naturally into Petra's dreamy visuals. I have seen Petra's approach to art and photography being described as 'The Female Gaze' which is an idea and concept that I think is very present in Petra's work, and something she is very aware of when portraying her visions, whether it be...
